If you're passing through you should go out of your way to stop at this gem. We were traveling to south Florida via NOLA and this was our stopping point for the day. If you're an old train fan this is across from a park where there is a railroad museum. It was dark so we couldn't see much. We were greeted warmly at the door and as it was early plenty of seating. The chef sent us out small cups of complimentary gumbo that was better than anything we has once in NOLA. The salad was fresh with homeade croutons you wish you had a bag of for snacking on the road. The rolls were big, warm, soft and yeasty with butter that tastes sweet and fresh. I had the combo fried platter with shrimp, oysters and catfish. The batter was very light and everything cooked perfectly. I had creamed spinach as my side. If you like fresh, good parmesan in your creamed spinach this side is for you. My husband had the grouper which was as good if not better than any we've eaten in south Florida. Desert for us was bread pudding with rum sauce. Excellent. One if the best meals we've ever had especially stopping while travelling. What a treat. Hope we get to stop here on the way back home!
The Caboose has excellent food and service. The personnel are friendly except for the owners and the assistant manager; they are the superficial type friendly

New to McComb, but an offspring of two other "Cabooses" in Amite and Hammond Louisiana. Food quality is mostly superb. The steaks are without peer anywhere in the south - perfectly trimmed; perfectly cooked masterpieces. The Ahi Tuna and Cedar Plank Salmon are also fantastic, and the wine list is good. It seems they are still working out some kinks with finding the right wait staff - our service has never been really poor, but never great either. Also some little nit-picks are the lack of any mineral water (Pellegrino,Perrier, etc), an "upcharge" if you share, and the inexcusable use of "shaker cheese" on the caesar in lieu of real parmesan. The bartending is s l o w and a bit stingy, and they don't seem to have the proper skill, knowledge, or experience for this caliber of restaurant / lounge. Speaking of lounge, it's the best place to sit, although smoking is allowed. We sit in the lounge for the quaint atmosphere. Overall, the finest restaurant in or within 60 miles of McComb
