      Board-certified in General Surgery and Thoracic/Cardiovascular Surgery, Dr. Daniel J. Waters has over 25 years of experience and extensive medical training, providing patients at Mason City Clinic with state-of-the-art care for their comprehensive surgical needs. Since 1994, Dr. Waters has served as Chairman of Cardiac Surgery at the Mercy Heart Center of Mason City Clinic, and also holds academic appointments as an Assistant Professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and a Clinical Professor at the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences. He holds several leadership positions within the Mercy Heart Center, as well as at Iowa Hospital and the Iowa Society of Thoracic Surgeons. Dr. Waters graduated with his Bachelors degree in Biology from St. Josephs College, and then earned his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the UMDNJ School of Osteopathic Medicine. His postgraduate training included a general internship at John F. Kennedy Hospital and then a residency in General Surgery at Des Moines General Hospital, serving as Chief Resident during his final year. To further advance his training, Dr. Waters also completed a fellowship in Cardiac Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. In addition to his practice tenure, Dr. Waters also remains actively involved in the medical community through membership in several professional organizations, including: Society of Thoracic Surgeons Iowa Society of Thoracic Surgeons American College of Cardiology, Fellow American College of Chest Physicians, Fellow American College of Surgeons, Fellow American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, Fellow Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association Iowa Medical Society Cerro Gordo County Medical Society He has presented numerous lectures at local hospitals and conferences, and has had scientific papers published in leading medical journals and textbooks. Dr. Waters is also active within the local community, serving as a coach of youth sports.
