I came home from work on a Wednesday night and let my dogs outside, as I always do. I changed out of my work clothes and went to my backyard and called my dogs back inside. My 3 dogs came running inside, but my 7year old Cardigan Welsh Corgi, Timmy, was nowhere to be found. It was dark and I began shouting his name. In the shadows, I saw him. He was dragging his back legs. I immediately ran to him and was horrified to see that my sweet baby was unable to walk. I scooped him up in my arms and drove as fast as I could to VCA Emergency Hospital. Here, I was told Timmy may have IVDD (Intervertebral disk disease) causing paralysis and was referred to VNCT and had an appointment the next day. I left Timmy over night for observation. The next day, in the snow, I drove back to VCA and picked up Timmy and drove to VNCT where I was immediately greeted by the wonderful staff. I was an emotional wreck and Dr Bowens was so kind. He explained, in detail, what IVDD was. How it happened and what Timmy's prognosis was. He even gave me a hug to comfort me... The staff immediately went to work and performed surgery. I was able to visit Timmy and the vet techs, Stephen and Francisco kept me updated daily. Seeing my dog unable to walk broke my heart... Seeing him unable to wag his tail killed me. I was reassured by Dr Bowens and the staff at VNCT that Timmy would make a fully recovery. I admit, I was skeptical... But 1 week later, I noticed my sweet boy was able to move his tail. A few days later, he was wagging it! A week later he was standing on his own... Before I knew it, he was walking again!! Shortly thereafter, he was able to run and now- just 2 months after surgery, you would have never known that he was paralyzed and underwent such an invasive surgery. I'm amazed with the outcome. I give all the credit to Dr Bowens and his wonderful techs, Stephen and Francisco for their dedication and most importantly, their compassion. They comforted and reassured me when I was crying in their clinic and took such amazing care of Timmy during his stay with them. Words cannot express our gratitude. Timmy is able to run and play again... Most importantly, he can wag his tail Bottom line: Dr Bowens is an amazing veterinarian and his vet techs, Stephen and Francisco are angels.

I'm so GRATEFUL!! Bruiser, my 8yr old Terrier became paralyzed one morning. I was so frightened, I rushed him to my family vet and when he saw him, he gave me a few options (two of which I didn't like & one to see a vet neurologist & neurologist). I prayed hard & fast, to guide me in the right direction. My vet said Dr. Bowens was one of the best in the DFW. So, we called Dr. Bowens' office & I rushed Bruiser to his clinic (VNCT). After Dr. Bowens assessed Bruiser, he stated he was concerned that he may have a ruptured a disk. They did back surgery that night. It took Bruiser a few days but he is doing great now. I thank Dr. Bowens and his staff for all they did for my Bruiser. He & his staff are extremely compassionate, honest & friendly. They kept me informed the whole time (before & after surgery) & every day till he came home. And they returned my calls promptly when I had questions. God bless each of them for all they did. Thank you Doc: Ms. Kelley, Bruiser, & all my other babies

Jack, our miniature dachshund, is 7 weeks from his major back surgery. He had a ruptured disc in his back, on his left side which required neurosurgery. He has gone from dragging his rear paws prior to surgery, to now walking without any problems. He still has a couple of more weeks left in his recovery, which we feel will get him back close to a 100% again. My wife and I want to thank Dr. Bowens and his staff at VNCT for taking good care of Jack and helping him get back to his old self. The Burkett family

Our puppy Clancy had experienced traumatic brain injury before we got him about a year ago. In May of 2013 he started having seizures so our regular vet suggested we take him to VNCT. Everyone from the front desk staff, the vet techs: from Steven to Dr. Bowens himself have treated Clancy with such care. He is a silly & sometimes wild weim puppy & they never showed any lack of patience with him. Each time we called with questions they took so much time to talk to us about whatever was going on. And each time he had to be admitted we knew Clancy was going to get the most up to date & excellent care possible. Clancy is doing good & while he will continue to suffer seizures I know VNCT has given us the tools to treat him the best we can and will always be there when we need them. Thank you VNCT for taking such excellent care of our little guy!! Thanks so much for all you do, The Digman family

Our family is so grateful to have found Dr. Bowens and his wonderful staff! They have taken exceptional care of our Jack/Rat Terrier mix, "Patch". Let me tell how Dr. Bowens came into our lives. She started to have symptoms about this time last year. We noticed her stumbling initially, then it progressed to an inability to jump and weakness in her legs. Her symptoms progressed rapidly; she had no strength or ability to control any of her legs. We contacted her vet and they referred us to Dr. Bowens. He diagnosed Patch with Myasthenia Gravis. He started her on medication immediately. Within a week, Patch was back to her normal activities/antics, walking, jumping, & play-fighting with the other dogs. Every staff member that we have come in contact with has been exceptional. They are all kind & caring. Dr. Bowens is a wonderful doctor & made sure that everyone in our family understood the disease process & why she was put on specific medications. The Fortenberry Family

Dr. Bowens and his staff provided our 5-year-old little Dachshund with the best care possible. After suffering both a herniated/ruptured disk, Louise had lost the function in her hind legs, was in extreme pain, and needed emergency neurosurgery. While her chance of a full recovery was 85%, we knew that nothing could be promised. After her surgery, Louise regained function in her legs within a couple of weeks. Three months afterward, she is running and walking with her usual spunkiness. We have Louise-proofed the house so that she can no longer jump! Dr. Bowens is excellent at what he does and has a wonderful bedside manner with dogs and their humans. We received twice-daily phone updates from his staff while Louise was in his care and could not be happier with our treatment and the results of the surgery. We highly recommend Dr. Bowens!

We brought our 6 year old dachshund, Izzy, in to see Dr. Bowens. She had started loosing control of her back legs. Dr. Bowens believed it was a ruptured disk in her back and confirmed that with a CT scan. They suggested surgery was the best route, so that evening they took her into surgery. Dr. Bowens called us before & after the CT scan, before the surgery and as soon as he completed the surgery to let me know how she was doing. All of the people at VNCT were so kind and understanding and didn't mind us calling at any time to check on her. All of the staff took incredible care of her and she loved all of them! She is walking on her own! I am so thankful that he was able to perform the surgery and that she has recovered so well from it! Dr. Bowens is very talented and has been gifted as a neurosurgeon. He is very kind & love the animals as much as the owner. Very grateful to him and his team for helping Izzy! Many thanks, The Royer family

Dr. B was very thorough and pleasant. He went through all the possible causes for my cats neurological symptoms. Even though he mention that my cat may/could possibly have cancer; he was very exact & methodical in explaining why it could or could not be cancer, as well as other possible causes. He offered what he felt was the best tests that could confirm or disprove possible disease that he felt could be possibly be responsible for my cats symptoms. Also he gave my family and I other possible options as far as tests and a trial treatment protocol if we weren't interesting in pursuing Dr. B preferred tests recommendations. I felt given the fact that Dr. B was telling me my cat could possible have a very bad disease he was still very emapathic (excellent bedside manner) very professional and he & his staff weren't pushy in terms of selling us on doing tests &/or pursuing neurosurgery. His 2 Vet-techs were awesome! Both were very knowledgable & compassionate as well as. GREAT EXPERIENCE

The entire staff at VNCT are AMAZING! Our 3 month old puppy was recently hospitalized with Parvo. Our Tea Cup Chihuahua was so sick I though she was not going to make it, the staff and doctors were positive and hopeful all the time which lifted my spirits. Doctors were there to answer any questions and most of the time I didn't have any because we were updated everyday. Veterinary Neurology & Neurosurgery Center made us feel like we were the only patients there!

The staff at the Veterinary Neurology & Neurosurgery Center (VNCT) are wonderful. Dr. Bowens explained every detail of his recommendation to us. They presented us with an estimate that was accurate, and we actually got money back when we checked out. Dr. Bowens stayed in contact with our regular vet the entire time and let him know what was going on. I had several questions and had to call several times over the weekend, and my call was returned immediately by the on call staff member. Highly recommend the VNCT! They were wonderful.
