Do not go to this facility. They didn’t do anything for me that an outpatient psychiatrist couldn’t do and then charged me an outrageous amount for INHUMANE “care.” I was a patient here twice and both times I received poor care, but the second time was completely unacceptable. My days were spent doing nothing. The psychiatrist saw me twice and for 5 brief minutes despite me being there for FIVE days. My niece brought in 3 pairs of clothes and pajamas for me on the first day of my admission. I was never given my clothes despite asking repeatedly for them. I was always told they’re locked up and cannot get them. I was forced to wear the same outfit for my entire 5 day stay. That is unacceptable and INHUMANE. I was wearing the same outfit both times I saw the psychiatrist and I believe this negatively impacted his opinion of my progress. Upon my discharge, I asked again for my clothes and was informed that the facility had lost them all. During my stay, no one ever told my niece that I needed replacement clothes.

My outpatient psychiatrist informed me that he was never consulted by any inpatient physician or staff member at North Bay Hospital. I should have been released to his care sooner. If my niece, who is a RN, had not intervened my hospital stay would have been even longer. I was supposed to be on a diabetic diet, yet was given an excessive amount of carbohydrates and sugar even when better options were available. This hospital is incompetent and unnecessarily kept me for longer than was needed for financial gain. Communication between my niece (next of kin) and the facility was extremely difficult despite my niece giving staff the correct passcode. She had to go up the chain of command to get any of her concerns addressed.

I was given the medication Risperdal during my first admission. My niece, not the staff, recognized that I was exhibiting serious side effects of this medication during visits. I had tremors, shuffling gait, anxiety, restlessness, dizziness, and was more tired than usual. I have a sleep disorder and lack of sleep put me into a psychosis. I am not bipolar. If the inpatient doctor who spent only 5 minutes with me would have made a simple call to my psychiatrist who had seen me for 2 years, he could have informed him of this. Upon admission my niece informed staff that I was allergic to Risperdal. Although I am not certain, I believe they gave Risperdal to me during my second admission as well.

The pediatric doctor is very rude and snotty. He would not talk to me for more than 3 minutes without escorting me away. He drugged me very badly. (6 pills a day.) (4 pills in the morning alone) The pills gave me headaches and made me feel tired and dizzy, and loose weight. It was hard to sleep at night because it was 65 degrees in the room and the beds were hard. The showers were cold. It was also yellow around the toilet from old urine. My first day the doctor assigned me a very abusive teck named Greg as my "one to one". He would not even let me get out from my chair or talk. At some point the floor nurse was on the phone with my mom. I went up to the desk to talk to my mom. The teck physically grabbed me and dragged me into the "quit room". Worse yet, he started a rumor that I climbed over the counter and grabed the phone from the nurse and said I would have torn the nurse up if he had not grabbed me. Calling home was a joke. I told my teck that my mom doesn't answer the phone unless you leave a message. The teck only called once and didn't leave a message. She made me take strong medicine when I ask again. This place gave me no "therapy" and didn't help me at all. All the nurses and techs were busy and didn't have time to listen to my problems. There was nearly nothing to do all day. The nurse was very impatient when my mom came to visit. The admitting therapist was extremely rude and did not listen to a word I said. One kid threw a chair. As if all this was not enough when it finally came time to leave (after 5 days: December 13th-18th, 2017) they wouldn't even let me check my room to make sure that I had all my belongings even though they promised they would. The teck instead lied and said that they put all my belongings in 2 bags but in reality I had an important piece of paper in my room that they did not put in a bag but instead gave to the doctor. I recommend this place to know one, regardless of their situation. They don't "help" you. They only drug you.

Our adult son suffered a psychotic episode. We took him to a local hospital. Then he was sent to North Bay. He was there for the 72 hours plus one half day.

If we are in need of finding a placement for him in the future we will NOT choose North Bay. Some of our reasons are:
1. North Bay doctors did not share information about diagnosis and treatment (even after release of information was signed by him).
2. During his stay at North Bay he continued to tell us about other residents' scary and dangerous behavior.
3. We were told "we can keep him here for a million years if we want to".
4. Our son smokes and North Bay does not allow any smoking.
5. Since his time there he has said that they did not treat him like a sick person, they treated him like a prisoner. He was also misdiagnosed.

I unfortunately have had to seek psychiatric care a few different times throughout my life...this place was AWFUL!!! The absolute worst place I have ever been taken for care! I was there for 5 days and the times I saw the patients treated respectfully and with dignity were few and far between. It's a very unorganized facility. Groups and classes that were on the schedule for the week didn't happen. I feel I would have been treated better by monkeys and gotten more mental health treatment from someone's canine companion. What a waste of time going to this place was for me. I also heard staff members complaining about their job right in front of the patients. That is unacceptable as well. My heart goes out to all the broken hearts and the mentally ill who have been dealt such an unfortunate hand and end up at this facility for "treatment".

My wife voluntarily admitted herself at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was taken to the Morton Plant North Bay Recovery Center after talking to a doctor for a couple of hours. While there she was given medication that made her to lose consciousness and hit her head causing her to taken to the ER. I was not notified and did not find out until I was able to talk to my wife again the next day. This is not an acceptable behavior for this kind of business to practice.
