General Info: Dr. Esther Knapp is a board certified pediatric hematologist/oncologist with specialized training in pediatric bone marrow transplantation. She joined the University of Louisville Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology in 2017. Her clinical responsibilities include attending on the inpatient pediatric hematology/oncology service, as well as the outpatient clinic and infusion area. She is also responsible for medical education of medical students, residents, and fellows. She also teaches a class on bioethics for medical students. She works at the University of Louisville Physicians as well as Norton Children’s Hospital. Her research background includes basic science research on the role of oxidative stress in diffuse large B cell lymphoma, as well as clinical research on fetal hemoglobin in sickle cell disease. She also has conducted research on ethical considerations in genetic testing in pediatric oncology, including next generation sequencing techniques. She is currently conducting a study looking at patient and family perspectives on genetic testing in pediatric oncology. She is a member of the American Society of Hematology.
