The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks provides a variety of recreational services for citizens. The department offers after-school and day care programs for children and operates teenager and athletic clubs and biking trails. It organizes basketball, volleyball, softball and flag football leagues. It provides outdoor activities that include camping, fishing, hiking, kayaking, canoeing and riding. Additionally, it offers arts and crafts activities, sports programs and tournaments. The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks offers education, forestry, aquatic and community programs. The department is an independent department created by the charter of the city of Los Angeles.
