Terrible passport photo service. I need to renew my passport. I went to The UPS Store because it was convenient. After waiting in line, an employee took my photo. I'm tall, she's considerably shorter. She only took 2 photos and tossed one as too smiley. The other looked okay, not great, on the tiny camera screen. (I'm not photogenic.) After a long wait, I was given my photos and headed home.
The photos were bad - shooting upward from close range distorted my face. I look like I have a headache (I didn't at that time). Poor light. And my head was obviously larger than the 1" to 1 3/8" size limits clearly shown on the photo holder. I measured it at 1 5/8", a full quarter inch too big. It was even worse than my driver's license photo.
I went back to The UPS Store, waited through a long line, and requested a refund or redo. NO REFUNDS. An employee insisted the photos were fine and the right size. She couldn't read a ruler correctly! Another employee finally intervened and agreed the size was wrong. No reshoot to correct the distortion, just a long wait for the same terrible photos the correct size.
Not wanting to cringe at my passport photo every time I look at it, I went to Walgreens. The employee at the photo counter took several shots of me, selected one that looked decent, and sized it correctly. I paid a couple dollars more than at The UPS Store, but got a much better photo in a lot less time.
If any alternative exists, I will refuse to use UPS, personally or for my business. For the last 3 years our community has had nothing but trouble with UPS drivers. We set our private road speed limit to 10 MPH specifically because of UPS trucks driving recklessly through our neighborhood, but I just had another driver race through at about 30 MPH. One of them is going to hit and kill something, a kid playing, an elderly patron retrieving their mail, or perhaps a pet. Maybe after a lawsuit we can get them to drive responsibly through our neighborhood. I pray no person is killed.
