My name is James Burchfield. In 2000 my historic house suffered extensive damage. Being interested in historic restoration we rebuilt the house following closely the original designs. When it came to building the front staircase we encountered great difficultly. I had obtained parts from a house which had been built in 1839 which were very similar to the staircase originally in our house. I wanted to incorporate those parts into the new staircase. The staircase is circular, with a balcony above. New parts would have to be made to match the banister, the balustrades and the newel posts. All the carpenters I talked to refused to get involved in such an undertaking. Then I found Ralph Jones. He saw the project as a challenge and agreed to do it. His craftsmanship was superb. He was able to duplicate the old parts. He made the curved sections of the banister. The end result was a staircase that looks like it was constructed one hundred fifty years ago. I would highly recommend Ralph.
