General Info
The Linda and Rudy Slucker NCJW Center for Women began in 1981 and serves the community as a nonsectarian center for all women in Essex County and the surrounding areas. The Center is funded by NCJW, Essex County Section and is a grantee of the State of New Jersey, Department of Community Affairs, Division on Women. The NCJW Center for Women is a project of NATIONAL COUNCIL OF JEWISH WOMEN, ESSEX COUNTY SECTION whose commitment is to meet the changing needs of our community. The section is a part of NATIONAL COUNCIL OF JEWISH WOMEN ( NCJW, INC ). Since its inception in 1893, NCJW's faith in the future and belief in action are reflected in its mission statement: The National Council of Jewish Women ( NCJW ) is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms. NCJW has been at the forefront of social change -- championing the needs of women, children, and families -- while courageously taking a progressive stance on such issues as child welfare, women's rights, and reproductive freedom. That pioneering spirit continues to this day. Informed by Jewish values -- and our understanding that these values have universal appeal -- the National Council of Jewish Women is the place where women from across society come together to make the world at large and their communities, a better place. Individual programs in the Linda & Rudy Slucker NCJW Center for Women are underwritten through the NCJW Legacy for the Future Endowment Fund by the following: Career Quest is made possible by grants from the Jewish Women's Foundation of New Jersey, United Way of North Essex and Montclair Women's Fund and is in partnership with Jewish Vocational Service ( JVS ) of MetroWest. The Teen Dating Abuse Project thanks the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey and Target for community outreach grants.
