Outstanding Dr

I have been a patient of Dr. Cohen for just about a year. I was fortunate to have been referred to him by my Ophthalmologist to treat me for early-onset Glaucoma. I am a 50-year-old man who, unfortunately, has been plagued with several other medical conditions in addition to the Glaucoma. Dr. Cohen tried treating me first with non-surgical methods; however, they were not successful, before, during, and after surgery, Dr. Cohen was amazing. Dr. Cohen is one of the most compassionate and caring

Great doctor

Dr. A. Cohen was recommended to me by Prof. R. Fechtner. He told me that I will be "in good hands" with Dr. A Cohen. Prof. R. Fechtner was 100% correct. Dr. A. Cohen is a very knowledgeable and caring doctor. He will spend as much time as needed without any rush to examine the patient, and then - as much time as needed to explain to the situation to the patient and honestly discuss all the alternatives. I feel extremely comfortable with Dr. A. Cohen and I have recommended him to everybody.

A doctor who really cares for you

After having been for years in the care of a probably competent but aloof physician, it was a relief to be in the hands of Dr. Cohen who is clearly concerned about my well being. Dr. Cohen listens and clearly explains the issues and his approach,. I have full trust in his competence.

DETAILS
General Info
Dr. Cohen graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with magna cum laude honors. As a college student, he witnessed his maternal grandmother lose her vision to glaucoma and macular degeneration. The young Dr. Cohen saw his grandmother lose not only her ability to see but also her identity, independence, and sense of self-worth. Without the ability to cook, she lost a favorite form of self-expression as well as the ability to nourish others. “Grandma Hannah’s” s blindness had a strong impact on his outlook on life and motivated him to attend medical school and pursue ophthalmology. Dr. Cohen was awarded an academic merit full tuition scholarship to attend Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Rutgers University Business School joint MD/MBA program. At Rutgers, he was awarded The New Jersey Academic Achievement Award scholarship. He was also awarded the Dean’s Housing Subsidy Scholarship by the Dean of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Cohen completed his internship year at Cornell University’s Transitional Year Surgery and Internal Medicine Internship program. He completed his residency at New York Medical College where he served as chief resident. Dr. Cohen completed his glaucoma fellowship at Yale University. Under the tutelage of Drs. Bruce Shields and James Tsai, he honed his surgical skills. At Yale University he developed a patent on implanting intraocular pressure sensors into the eye and participated in glaucoma screening program for low-income patients throughout the state of Connecticut. After completing his fellowship at Yale, Dr. Cohen took a position at Rutgers University/New Jersey Medical school where he served as the Associate Director of the Glaucoma division for over 10 years. At Rutgers, he performed almost 5,000 glaucoma surgeries and taught residents how to perform surgery. He was awarded resident teaching awards two years in a row for teaching glaucoma surgery.
