- Plantar FasciitisPlantar fasciitis is the most common heel pain for adults. It’s caused by overstretching or irritating the plantar fascia, which is a long, tough band of fibrous tissue that goes from your toes to your heel.
- Diabetic Foot CareAging affects us all, but that doesn’t mean you need to accept foot pain or give up on healthy living. We provide routine maintenance care, screening tests for nerve health, treatment for bunions or arthritis pain, diabetic foot care, and other crucial services for seniors. - UltrasoundWe will typically be able to diagnose Achilles tendinitis easily during a standard exam. We may ask you about your activities and when pain tends to be at its worst. In some cases, we might order an imaging test such as an X-ray or ultrasound to get a clearer look at the situation and rule out any other types of problems.

- Wound CareAnd, as always, you’ll have to closely monitor your blood glucose level. This is important in diabetic wound care because high blood glucose levels can lead to small blood vessel disease. This condition limits the flow of blood, which carries oxygen and nutrients to heal the area.
- Ankle SurgeryDr. Sabers is a board-certified surgeon specializing in podiatric medicine and surgery. He grew up in Ames, Iowa, and attended the University of Northern Iowa where he majored in biomedical biology and minored in chemistry. After college, he obtained his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Des Moines University in Des Moines, IA. Dr. Sabers then completed a three-year surgical residency where he underwent extensive training in foot and ankle surgery. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids, traveling, cycling, basketball and golf.
- Bunion SurgeryHowever, once the bunion starts to cause daily pain or keeps you from participating in activities you used to enjoy, surgery is usually inevitable. However, it’s not all bad news, because our office specializes in a sophisticated form of bunion surgery that offers much faster recovery and better long-term results than conventional approaches!
- Joint Replacement arthrodesis  and is typically used for smaller joints in older patients with more severe deformities or arthritis. Although this permanently prevents joint motion, it also stops the pain with relatively minimal limitation of mobility. It’s also less likely to need a revision surgery than a joint replacement (which may last only 10-20 years).
- BunionsThe vast majority of bunions are believed to be genetically inherited to at least some degree. Essentially, you were likely born with a certain foot shape or structure that is prone to developing the kinds of joint instability that ultimately lead to bunion formation.
- Ingrown ToenailsIngrown toenails are a frustrating and painful problem affecting millions of Americans every year. Instead of growing out like normal, the side or corner of a toenail—usually, but not always, on the big toe—digs sideways into the flesh. The result is pain, swelling, serious discomfort wearing shoes, or even infection (especially if you have diabetes).
- Reconstructive SurgeryHowever, when the basic structure of your foot has been severely compromised, reconstructive surgery may be the only real solution. Until the alignment issues are fixed, pain and injury will continue or keep returning.
- Hammertoe SurgeryHammertoe surgery is typically performed in an outpatient setting. There are a variety of surgical techniques that may be used, including tendon transfers, joint resection, or in some cases joint fusion. We’ll discuss all your options with you, including any pros or cons of each, so you can be confident in your choice. Regardless of the procedure, the long-term results are very good to excellent for the vast majority of patients.Â
- CornsPainful corns (or in severe cases, open sores) in spots where the toe presses up against the inside or bottom of your shoes
- UlcerOnce you notice any of the above signs on your feet, book an appointment with your podiatrist. If you notice an ulcer, seek medical care right away. The quicker it can be healed, the less chance it can become infected.
- Calluses Not all diabetic complications are visible from the outside. Often, the signs of neuropathy won’t become apparent until the nerves are already severely damaged. During your appointment, we can test the health of your nerves and circulation. We will also provide maintenance care for any issues you may be experiencing (calluses, ulcers, thick toenails).
- Rashes
- Sports Medicine are all about stabilizing and controlling abnormal motion so that your feet and joints move in a biomechanically efficient way. They tend to be made of semi-rigid materials and are often the best choice for chronic sports injuries, among other issues.
- Physical TherapyWe emphasize a conservative approach to heel pain using advanced research and tools, including custom orthotics and physical therapy. Surgery is performed when necessary but is only rarely needed.

- Ankle SprainThere are two significant steps you should take any time you suspect a sprain or any other ankle injury.
