Lewiston Public School District, operational for more than 30 years, is one of the leading providers of primary education in the United States. Located in Lewiston, Maine, the school district enrolls more than 2,000 students in prekindergarten through grade 12. The district regularly holds monthly parent and staff representatives and school council administrators meetings. It offers a wide variety of learning procedures and methodologies, including readalouds, shared and guided reading, word study, mini-lessons, spelling program, poetry sessions, interactive writing, writer s workshop, special handwriting classes, reading buddies, and programs using cubes, number cards, number lines, and pattern shapes. The district s teachers utilize full-inclusion model, ongoing assessments, individualized lesson plans, modified materials and class arrangements, grade level conferences, and parent communication. It employs more than 50 support staff, including counselors, diagnosticians, speech, physical and occupational therapists, special education personnel, reading teachers, custodial staffs, community volunteers, nurses, and office personnel.
