watch out... you're paying their high priced building rent in Raintree, you don't actually have a cavity.

I took my children here for th...

I took my children here for the first time. In the waiting room, a friend of mine came in and said that this was her second time. She told me that on her first visit, they charged her wrong and she had to argue with them on the bill and hoped it wouldn't happen again. I should have left then.

Be wary if you go here. You will be given a sheet to sign that says that your procedure will cost $X with an estimated insurance payment of $Y. It further says that the $X price is good for 30 days from the day it is signed. It is signed by both you and someone in the office. You will then get your first bill. It will agree with that amount that you agreed to and signed off on. Then they will file with your insurance company for an amount greater than you agreed to ($Z). When your insurance pays the amount $Y, then Raintree Family Dental will do an adjustment to increase the amount owed on your account. The reason for this is that you originally paid $X (quote) - $Y (insurance). Raintree files with insurance for $Z and the insurance pays $Y. Since your insurance explanation of benefits shows an amount due that is greater than what they quoted you, they try to collect the additional amount by adding a debit adjustment to your account.

For example, a filling is quoted at $140. Estimated insurance payment is $80. So, you sign the form saying that insurance amounts are estimated, but the procedure quote of $140 is good for 30 days. You pay $60 ($140 procedure less estimated $80 insurance) the day of the procedure.

Then, they file with insurance for "the maximum allowable amount" of $169. Insurance does in fact pay the estimated $80. This leaves a balance of $89, but since you only paid $60, they feel you still owe them money. They then do a debit adjustment to your account with no explanation for the additional $29.

It is quite a racket and seems fraudulent since you agreed to a price up front. It happened consistently for my son's cleaning, my daughter's cleaning and a filling my daughter had. This practice essentially added 10-30% to the bill over what I had agreed to pay in the original quotes.

I complained via letter and the adjustments were removed from my account. However, I received a rebuttal letter stating that this was their practice and they felt they were in the right adjusting accounts upwards. Although they don't charge you for the inflated amount up front, nor is it in your signed quote, they informed me they have the right to adjust the account up to the maximum allowed by insurance.

Too bad that the dentist was kind of nice. The fraudulent accounting practices are such a racket (and one that most might not even notice or be able to figure out), I can't even fathom going back to the place.

Do Not Go to This Dentist!

I went one year ago for a cleaning using the $59. "new patient" cleaning special. I was told I had 3 cavities. I am 32 years old and have never had a cavity before. I was shocked. He and his front desk girl were very pushy about needing to have them filled right away. I do not have dental insurance and the $600 bill was not something that I was expecting. I told them I would have to wait a couple of months. I received multiple annoying phone calls from his receptionist trying to schedule me for fillings. The first came less than one week from my appointment. What part of I need to wait a couple months to come up with the $ was so hard for them to understand?? Irritated, I decided I would not use them for my fillings.

I scheduled cleaning 6 months later with another dentist. I did not let him know that I was told of cavities. I was very surprise to find out I DID NOT HAVE CAVITIES AFTERALL!

This has been verified a second time on March 16th, 2010, by a UMKC student who was looking for patients with cavities to work on for his clinical exams to graduate. So, I'm pretty sure this doctor does not know what he's doing or he is trying to increase his pocket book size.
