- Dental CareDental exams are recommended annually for most horses (can be done with spring shots). We use sedation and a dental speculum with a power float which allows us to do a thorough oral exam in addition to floating the teeth. The power float allows for a more precise and thorough float than with manual floats. Signs of dental problems are: fighting the bit, difficulty chewing or dropping feed, losing weight, swelling on the side of the face, unilateral nasal discharge, or bad breath. If your horse is a gelding, it is recommended that the sheath be cleaned at the time of the dental procedures while he is sedated.

- Veterinary Ophthalmology
- Nutritional CounselingLebanon Equine Clinic works with technology that can make diagnosis and recovery more efficient. The use of radiography and ultrasound techniques helps our staff precisely pinpoint where issues exist and is safer for the horses than more traditional diagnostic methods. The horse owners who come to us also get good advice on the telltale signs. Are their horses not eating enough? Are they lethargic? Unexplained weight loss and diarrhea are also indicators.
- Comprehensive ExaminationBefore buying the horse of your dreams, protect yourself with a pre-purchase exam. While they cannot guarantee your horse will help you reach all of your riding goals, it can provide insight to help you make an informed decision. The goal of the pre-purchase exam is to expose underlying health concerns that may not be apparent to the naked or untrained eye that could prevent you from reaching your goal or present maintenance issues. The pre-purchase exam assesses general health, conformation and soundness for the intended use. The exam is not a pass-fail test or a guarantee of long term health. Every horse has problems but a prepurchase exam provides you, the buyer, with information so you can decide if the problems exposed are ones you are willing to accept.
- Parasites Treatment and ControlWe offer effective parasite control strategies, which include regular fecal testing and deworming programs tailored to each horse.
- Pain ManagementTreatment options for internal injuries in horses typically involve medical management, fluid therapy, and pain control. The specific treatment approach will depend on the nature and severity of the injury, as well as the overall condition of the horse.
- Diarrhea Treatment
- Upper Respiratory Illness TreatmentRespiratory System: Internal injuries to the respiratory system in horses can result from trauma, such as forceful impacts or kicks. These injuries may cause lung contusions, collapsed lungs, or dangerous blood accumulation in the chest. Common respiratory conditions include the flu and other viruses.
- Arthritis TreatmentIRAP therapy is a regenerative therapy recommended for use in horses suffering from joint lesions such as oestoarthritis, osteocondrosis desicans (OCD) and other causes of joint inflammation. Osteoarthritis is one of the major causes of loss of use in equine athletes. iRAP therapy is generated by your horse’s own blood cells. iRAP is used for joint injections in place of corticosteroids to help decrease inflammation within the joint by blocking interleukin-1, a major stimulator of cytokines which destroy cartilage during joint inflammation.
- Hip Dysplasia TreatmentOur professional staff will perform a thorough lameness examination on your horse and recommend further diagnostics or therapies depending on what issues your horse has. To perform a complete lameness exam your veterinarian will obtain a complete medical history of your horse and the current issue. With trained eyes and hands, your veterinarian will perform a passive exam by visually assessing the conformation and balance of the horse as well as palpation of the musculoskeletal system. Your horse well then be evaluated in motion and depending on the case, potentially under saddle. Your veterinarian will watch how the horse’s feet land, abnormalities in the pattern of footfall, signs of pain when each foot lands, and asymmetry in movement. Utilizing flexion tests which put stress on specific joints and potentially diagnostic nerve and joint blocks to numb certain areas, our professional staff will localize the area of causing your horse’s discomfort. Once the region has been localized, your veterinarian will utilize radiographs and/or ultrasound to visualize the lesion. In some complicated cases, advanced diagnostics at a referral hospital, such as Nuclear Scintigraphy (Bone Scan) or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), may be necessary. Your veterinarian will work with you to provide you with the best possible lameness exam and therapy. Our goal is to get you and your horse back in the saddle.

- Laboratory ServicesEquine Infectious Anemia is a viral disease spread by horse flies for which no vaccine or cure exists. A simple blood test called a Coggins test is performed to examine your horse’s blood for antibodies. Horses traveling boarded, going to shows, or being sold must have a negative Coggins exam. Additionally, to cross state lines, horses must have a negative Coggins and a health certificate. Our nationally accredited veterinarians can pull bloodwork for Coggins and write health certificates. We can obtain Coggins in as little as 48 hours.
- X-RayImproved Image Quality: Digital radiography and ultrasound produce high-resolution images that allow our veterinarians to visualize and analyze anatomical structures with greater detail and accuracy. This enhanced image quality aids in the early detection and diagnosis of various conditions, such as fractures, joint abnormalities, and soft tissue injuries.
