General Info
I chose to be an orthopedic surgeon because it gives me the opportunity to help people address the aches, pains, and injuries that are holding them back from living their best life. I understand the profound impact that musculoskeletal issues can have on a person when they cannot pursue the activities they love. I help patients learn about their diagnosis and the non-surgical and surgical treatment options available to them. I review the risks, benefits, and research for each option with my patients, and then encourage them to choose the path that works best for them. My goal is to help patients get back to the sports, activities, and hobbies they enjoy. There’s nothing better than seeing patients long after their injury and learning about how well they are doing. Outside of the clinic, I enjoy pursuing research that helps us optimize our surgical outcomes. This allows me to contribute to the field and remain on the forefront of new ideas and procedures. I have published on an array of topics throughout orthopedic surgery, including the adoption of new techniques for rotator cuff repairs, medical conditions associated with frozen shoulders, and the cost-effectiveness of reverse shoulder arthroplasty for fractures.

I found Dr. Austin to be friendly, concerned and attentive. I feel physically capable again.
Great, he works with his patients to find the best way to handle the situation. I had my rotor cuff repaired and now I have full range again.
Outstanding! We did our research prior to going to Dr Austin for my sons elbow condition. His reviews online, plus the published research he has done with condition, helped seal our decision that he was the best suited surgeon for my son. We were impressed with Dr Austin at our first visit as he was knowledgeable and understanding and made my son feel at ease regarding surgery. The surgery went better than expected and all the follow up appointments have been great. We are so thankful to have found Dr Austin! Dartmouth-Hitchcock is lucky to have Dr Austin as part of the ortho surgery team! A+++
Dr Austin is amazing! He not only diagnosed each of my children’s issues, he explained everything to us and treated them as the patients and not numbers, Even when one child needed surgery and one didn’t, Dr Austin along with the staff at New London orthopedics has always gone above and beyond! He continues to follow up and explain care to them throughout their course of healing. Such a gem to this practice, I would refer anyone I know to him for their orthopedic care.
He got me in right away for surgery so I can get on the road to recovery to get back to my active lifestyle. I’ve had excellent results post surgery and no complications.
My experience with Dr. Austin was excellent. He was clear in the explanation of what was going to be done during surgery and his instructions following surgery. I was impressed that I had a three month follow up after the initial follow up following surgery.
The Best! Very happy with results.
I felt his attention to detail and explanation of the issue was delivered in a way that was respectful. I was treated as an intelligent participant in my care. I trusted Dr Austin immediately. He was my 3rd opinion on my condition and the first to help me see the actual situation, not dismissive.
Gave me all important information I needed to make the right decision for me and my family.
Dr Austin explains my treatment plan in easy to understand terms and timeline for recovery. He also is patient and kind in his approach which I appreciate.
Dr. Austin completely explained the process of repairing my elbow with the goal to returning to complete functionality. Every step of the process was clear, from surgery to follow up. And I'm very happy with the results!

Dr. Austin helped with movement of frozen shoulder through surgery. For two years I was unable to move shoulder very well. I had previously had two surgeries on this shoulder.
