I had a very bad experience here with my five year old daughter. I am an R.N. so I do expect professionalism to be a given. Dr. Hawkinson was in a hurry and left the hygenist to answer my questions. We had recent xrays sent over, but they informed me they needed to take more. She also wanted to crown a baby tooth, which our regular dentist said was not necessary.We live in Saint Joseph and my daughter was going to have fillings. We were going to be leaving town and when I made an initial consultation appointment Rosemary guaranteed me the 2 appointments for the actual fillings could be done at the Barry Road office before the date we would be going out of town. After the consultation, they told me all they had was the Leawood location and refused to make it right. I reluctantly agreed, but told them to not make the appointment with Dr. Lopez because she was not in network with our dental insurance. They did it anyway and I didn't find out about it until the morning before when they called to confirm the appointment. I told Melissa 3 times she wasn't in network. I had to call my insurance company (GEHA) myself for them to finally figure out she was actually not in network. I finally was able to talk with the office manager, Miranda, and she still would not make this right. She said she would talk to her office staff. They offered to change the appointment to one of the other doctors, but asked me to be in Lees Summit in 2 hours- I live in St. Joe and my daughter had to be NPO for 3-4 hours. It was a joke.

Dr. Thomas and Dr. Hawkinson are awesome. My children love visiting the dentist. I would have never expected that knowing my children!!!

The atmosphere is tons of fun with dinosaur murals, video games, a toy machine for after the visit, a slushy drink after a procedure. My son couldn't wait to go back. The dentist (we had D.r Lopez) explained everything thoroughly. The reception staff and dental assistant also seemed to really care about the kids. Oh, and they don't "pull teeth," they "wiggle them out." A really great dental experience.
