We booked the Makena Wailea Explorer and had no idea what to expect. We were blown away! Our guide Kalayo (spelling?) was excellent. After explaining how to kayak and snorkel on shore, he led us to a cool snorkeling spot with caves that were just under the water. What an amazing spot with fish, corals and big green turtles! We hoped to swim with the turtles and cant believe how close they came. Our guide was in the water with us the entire time showing us lots of marine life! We went to 2 more snorkel spots that were both awesome. We landed on the beach and had a delicious lunch that our guide prepared for us. Definitely a 5-star guide and a 5-star company!

This was our first kayak trip ever as a couple - a sure-fire way to court disaster but it was so great! Our first planned trip was cancelled due to inclement weather (ie: downpour) so we rescheduled the next morning for 7am. There ended up just being two kayaks and our guide so basically a private tour. I'm kicking myself for not remembering our guide's name, but he was knowledgable, friendly, skilled and patient! Everyone we met at Maui Kayaks was super friendly and gave us great advice to boot on restaurant recommendations, attractions, etc. After our experience I'd love nothing more than to buy a kayak for our lakes at home and start touring our own backyard. A much more intimate up-close experience with whales too than your typical catamaran trips.

We had a perfect day. John took us to a great snorkeling spot. We saw lots of turtles, brightly colored fish and even a spotted ray! My sons are hooked which is the best part. John also provided us with lots of info about the islands and ocean inhabitants. Great lunch too, highly recommend it.

I was scared to death to get into the kayak. John was so professional. He could read the waves and knew exactly when we should take off. The weather was not conducive to snokeling so instead he took us on the most incredible whale-watching kayak adventure. We were surrounded by Hawaiian Humpbacks, watching them from as close as 100 yards. It was well worth our time and money. I highly recommend John and Maui Kayaks.

Our first trip to Maui and somehow we were lucky enough to get one of the best. Kaleo was so knowledgeable and humble in that he welcomed us into his office and let us experience what he had to work with every day. The experience was so enjoyable, from the turtles, octopus to the shark we enjoyed his world. This is truly one of our best memories of our two week in Maui. We spent the first week in Hana looking at rainbows and waterfalls, but Kaleo showed us the real beauty of Maui just below the surface. Thank you Kaleo from the Longstreets.

We booked the whale watching and snorkeling tour out of Olowalu. Our guide Kaleo is Hawaiian and we felt that added something to the experience. As the other kayaking groups didn't appear to have any success finding whales we started off with snorkeling. Kaleo's explanations were informative and he was able to coax a white tip shark out from under the coral. Quite an experience! After we finished snorkeling we set off in search of whales and it wasn't long before we found some. Kaleo seemed very skillful in predicting which way the whales would come. We didn't get quite as close as I was hoping for but I think that's just they way it goes some days. Overall it was a great tour.

Our guide, Kaleo, took us out Thursday, Fabruary 28th, 2013. This was a 3 hour tour (check in 7am until 10:30am) He was very funny, laid back, informative, and interesting. He knew all of the good spots to check out the local marine life during our snorkelling portion and even let us hold a few select star fish, etc. He really went above and beyond to make our experience the best. He customized the trip as we went along so that we could do as much snorkelling, kayaking, and whale watching as possible. He also took a video of a whale for us so we wouldn't fall out of our kayaks :). He was so sweet to bring us water and snacks to replenish us after our journey. The "Bathroom Facilities" are the biggest you'll ever use :) He also brings a dry bag to store your valuables. DON"T leave valuables in the car. Leave most things at your hotel/condo and he can keep your smart phone, keys, wallet, jewelry safe and dry for you.

I had an amazing time kayaking with John and Maui Kayaks. John, our guide, was so knowledgeable and nice, and he really made the day so enjoyable. He definitely eased my nervousness (I was by myself) about kayaking and being in the open ocean. He spent a lot of time with the group explaining how to kayak and what the best way to do everything was, we were all thankful he took this extra time with us. We snorkeled a great spot, and saw some whales very close up. I would recommend Maui kayaks, and John, the best guide ever ! He even made us the most beautiful and wonderful lunch I had on the entire vacation.
