I'm leaving this review as my first yelp review. I couldn't relax until I reviewed this place. I was noI impressed.
was spening my last night in Georgia/Florida area, staying in Kingsland. I was getting low on funds and opted to eat nearby at Malson's. The little woody shack with a pile of wood in the back and a smoker puffing out delicious smokey meat smell seemed promising.
I ordered at the window and was immediately greeted. I ordered a half rack of ribs, potato salad and baked beans to go. I was served in about 5 minutes. I returned to my hotel room starving and ready to eat the take-out food.
My first bite of ribs ruined my night. I had spent 20 dollars including tip for this meal and it would be my last restaurant meal since I was low on money.
The ribs were tough, over salted with little sauce (I asked for sauce which is an option.) I'm not sure how the ribs are cut but every bite seemed to have bone and cartilage bits in it. I've eaten a lot of pork ribs and they never have so much "debris" in them.
I continued to the beans. They were a style unfamiliar to me filled with coriander seed. I don't mind the flavor but every bite had two or three seeds. That's a bit much. Maybe the seeds settled and I got the bottom of the kettle. They weren't good when every bite burst with overwhelming coriander and the texture of crushed seeds.
I was feeling cheated. The food was not good. I continued on to the potato salad. One bite convinced me I had wasted all my money. It was dry, flavorless and mealy. It tasted like stale old salad dressing.
I was shocked at the high ratings of this establishment.
I may just be used to a different sort of ribs. I like tender meat with a good strong smokey flavor, with sauce in every bite. These ribs seemed under cooked with fatty portions that usually would cook down and get crispy more and not be so flabby and squishy.
I'll try to eat the ribs eventually. I was starving and the beans were the least objectionable and I finished them with a lot of Coke. The potato salad went right in the garbage.
