General Info

Founded in 2003, The Arts Center at Killingworth is a nonprofit organization focused on the development and presentation of the visual and performing arts on the Shoreline of Connecticut. The Center supports amateur and professional artists by organizing exhibits and concerts, staging theater events, and offering classes, camps and workshops for children and adults. There are two arms to The Center's mission: To showcase artists from outside the Shoreline area, as well as enlist local artists to teach, exhibit, and perform furthering their reach into the community. The key to growth for The Center has been its developing programming from one small, free Origami Workshop in the Spring of 2003, to the current variety of visual programs and performing events. I signed my 2 1/2 year old up to take classes on Saturday with her dad. We purchased 4 classes and the last class I received a phone call asking if we intended on coming, I found this odd as we had not missed any classes. The owner explained that there would only be one other child that day. I asked if she would be offering more classes in the future, to my surprise rather than just answering the question she felt the need to let me know my daughter had issues. I was completely taken aback by this as I had attended a class with her and found her to be appropriate. She felt that she didnt want to sit for one of the crafts and therefore must not enjoy it, shes 2, I would have thought that the class would be accomodating to this. When I did not respond she said perhaps she was being persumptious. Sadly I have an older daughter that was looking forward to taking classes there. After our conversation I did not attend the last class and never received a phone call asking why.
