Reviews
The grounds leading up to this museum are quite impressive, but that is just a beginning. The museum itself is world-class. Dedicated to the preservation of the western heritage, you will find western art in many mediums; oils, watercolors, etchings, carvings, bronze and more. They also have an extensive research center.
Youngsters under 12 will enjoy the "Journey's West" pavilion, sponsored by Ford Motor Co. They will be caught up into the theme of "wagons west" and read tablets of a young person headed out on a wagon train. They can climb into a real chuck wagon, prowl around a teepee, and explore a log cabin. They'll peer into trucks and suitcases, check out maps and period western attire and hats.
Allow at least one hour to view this museum. Special exhibitions change throughout the year.
Small gift shop on site.
Allow one hour minimum to go through the many galleries. Throughout the year, special exhibits come through as well, so it is worth a repeat visit if you have been there before. Also, the special Children's Gallery is great for youngsters up to 12 or so, as it offers up hands-on info on the westward movement, complete with chuck wagon to climb in, teepee to crawl in, and interactive displays and quizzes.
