“Somerset Apartments, where nothing is management's responsibility."

There are several reasons why I suggest looking elsewhere for an apartment. On top of it taking 3 weeks to fix a faulty toilet, and getting a notice on my car to be towed for no reason what so ever, on two occasions I was sent to collections by Somerset due to a lack of competence.

The first time, I received a notice on my door saying that rent was not paid and I had to pay in 3 days or I would be evicted. The problem was that they incorrectly deposited my check for $1,000 less than what it was written for. I went to the office and had them pull out the copy of my check. With check in hand, they saw that I indeed paid rent in full. The woman behind the desk said she'd fix the problem. 5 days later there was an eviction notice on my door, stating that they will be sending me to collections to pay for rent (which I paid in full on time) and $100 in legal fees. I contacted them again and all they could tell me is, "I don't know what happened".

They sent me to collections again upon move out! 4 days after moving out a letter sent to me from collections stated money was still owed for move out fees. The claim they sent to collections was made 10 days before the money was actually due! Since I had paid all my move out fees I called the manager to ask them why I was sent to collections. I asked if I still owed money and they said no. She said, "I don't know why you were sent to collections." I asked her why I should pay collections if I didn't owe Somerset money. The manager's response, "that's between you and the collections agency." I asked, who was responsible for sending the collections agency my information if I didn't owe them money, The manager's response, "our system automatically send everyone to collections." Only after demanding to speak with her superior did she offer to actually look into the problem. An hour later I got a call back from her saying that, "I don't know what happened."

Their incompetence was borderline harassment. Nothing feels worse than being accused you owe a lot of money when you don't. Especially if they do it more than once.
