I woke up with a hot house and a frozen line from my outdoor unit to my house when I needed to be at work and I had kids who had to stay at home all day in a hot house if I didn't get it fixed. I have had a leak in my coil before and my father in laws a/c repair man came and put a sealant in my coil. This was after another company quoted me a $1600 repair that I could not afford. When the person from this company came out I asked if he needed up into my attic-he said no-just needed to go to the outside unit. He proceded to go to the outside unit and hook something up to tell the level of Freon was low and I had a leak. I told him I knew I had a history of this-could he just check for major leaks-he said no-that would have to be at another visit. He added 3 lbs of freon and left-after being at my house for approximately 15 min-most of which was telling me what he needed to do to check for a leak-after being told the "old" freon is very expensive I was not shocked to see a bill of $178-until I realized $85 of that was for the service call!!! I realize that all repair companies have a minimal 1 hour charge-but he refused to check for a major leak. When I later called to question this in one sentance he said that he didn't have time to check for a leak that day and in another sentance he said that was the base minimum he charged for a service call-and would stay the hour if need be- he was completely contradicting himself. In less than a week-my house is again hot- with 105 degree temps outside. I have never been so disappointed with a company. I feel like I was taken avantage of because I was a desperate woman-who needed to get her house cool-but I was willing to stay to at least know if there was a major leak somewhere.
