I have to echo the updated review of tonki on here. We had an overall good experience with Tigerland in the infant and under 18 month rooms. They have the little ones room understaffed. They could not keep their stories straight on bruises that showed up. Looking back I sure wish I had taken signs seriously. In recent weeks our daughter would cry and throw a tantrum when taking her to that room. She would try to go back to the under 18 month room. They are currently below the state mandated number of 3 teachers there, and the kids are just running around wild. After seeing a bruise on her forehead Friday and now a bruise outside her eye on the following Monday we had had enough. They now claimed the bruise on Friday happened around 8am instead of 3:40PM when she is dropped off at 8:20AM anyway. They claimed the bruise today didn't happen there when we know without a doubt that it did. Nothing was documented. These aren't small bruises that go away in a couple of days. The staff in the room say a 3rd person was hired but has not started. Jane, the manager there, just tells you what you want to hear. She lied and said there were 3 people in the room all but for 15 minutes today. Obviously that is not the case. We will not be back to this place, and I would not recommend them to a friend.

I reached out and spoke to the father today to get more clarification and to see if there was anything we need to do differently in the future based on their experience and he re-iterated many of the issues raised in the complaint. I would like to clarify some of the information in the complaint which is not factual. 1. This child is in a toddler classroom where the maximum class size allowed is 18 with a teacher/student ratio of 9:1 per Child Care Licensing. Because we have very large classrooms that are generally full, as a matter of practice we have three teachers in the classroom with a maximum of 18 children (a 6:1 ratio). This parent states in his complaint that we were below the state mandated level of teachers but this is simply not true (and easily verifiable). The parent was use to seeing three teachers in the classroom and assumed this was mandated by Child Care Licensing but in fact we maintain significant better ratios than what the State requires for this age group. On days where we have less children in attendance in this classroom, we will sometimes reduce our staffing. Likewise, at the beginning and end of the day, the number of teachers will vary as children come and go at different times but we are NEVER out of the 9:1 State ratio. On the days of the two incidents which lead to the bruises, we had 16 children with three teachers one day and 13 children with 2 teachers on the other day. Both days significantly within the State mandated 9:1 ratio for this age group. Thus, this parents statement that we were not in compliance with the state mandated ratios is simply factually incorrect. 2. As far as the timing of the incidents, the teachers in the classroom told the parents the correct time frame of each incident and there was simply a misunderstanding by our Director in getting the two incidents confused when she was confronted by the parents. There was no attempt to mislead but our Director simply confused the two incidents because they were both bruises on the forehead. 3. The first incident which lead to a bruise on the forehead happened approximately 45 minutes before the dad picked up at the end of the day. When the dad walked in, the teachers immediately pointed out a red mark on the forehead that had happened earlier and said it might bruise. I agree that no written incident report was done at this time but verbal communication was made in person with the father. 4. With the 2nd incident of a bruise which happened the following Monday morning, there was ice applied to the bruise immediately and the mom signed a written incident report when she picked up at the end of the day which notified her of the bruise. Thus, we are unsure why the review indicates that nothing was documented because the parents were made aware of both incidents when picking up for the day. While we are very fortunate to have very large classrooms with age appropriate toys and soft climbing structures, this does often lead to minors scrapes and bruises at this age (18-24 months). As a result of this family's concerns about the bruises, we are going to take immediate action and re-design parts of the room to minimize the childrens' ability to run in the classroom (which is the most common cause of the cuts and bruises). Likewise, we are going to temporarily remove some of the soft toy structure areas (where the kids tend to bump into one another) to see if these actions have a noticeable impact on reducing these types of bruises and scratches. When parents are unhappy with some aspect of the care they received at Tiger Land, we appreciate when they notify us of their reasons for leaving so that we can make changes, if necessary, to improve the care for other families. Although we did not have a chance to rectify the issues before this family left, we will still make the changes indicated so that we can continually improve the care for the children of our existing families.

Treat you like Family!

The facility is exceptionally clean and the staff is so professional. My oldest son is in Jr high now but my two youngest are picked up after school. I never have to worry about them doing there homework. The staff treats me and my boys like family! They have all enjoyed the fun field trips over the summers.

Can I go There

What can I say. If I could go to Tigerland Day Care all day instead of going to work, I would. The main reason I don't is because Im pretty sure they would not pay me what I make at my job. And I have better parking at my Job, (they really need help in the parking lot area). I really like the fact that they have a full kitchen and cook. The kitchen does not just have microwaves in it either. My little girl use to come home and tell me what she had for lunch and I wanted to go there and eat lunch. (but I cant say much for the assistant cook.) The full time cook has been there a long time and my daughter calls her mom. That should tell you how the food is. They also make sure they are teaching your child before they even go to school so when your child gets to school, they know what they should to get a good start in Kindergarden. The daycares I used before did not do near what TL does go get your child ready for school.

Love this Place

When I had my son, my work ended up calling me asking to return to work immediately. At this point I had not even thought about where I was going to send him upon returning to work. I had 24 hours to try and get back to work before things fell apart. I called Tigerland, they said "Come on up" and I got to meet everyone, look at the facility and sat me down and explained what all they do for the children. I had a really good feeling about leaving my young infant in their care. 2 years later, I still feel the same way. They all know my son by name, they all welcome him in and see him home everyday. I love seeing him walk around Tigerland like he does at home, comfortable!! I do highly recommend sending your child here as I tell all my expecting friends ...

Love this place

We don't have family in our area and when we had our baby we planned for an individual to take care of her in the home. That plan fell through at the last minute and we frantically searched for a new solution to child care. I found Tiger Land and feel blessed. Our child is still a baby but she learns something new every day and her teachers take care of her and love her as if she was one of their own. The faculty there make everyone feel like they are part of a community which is very special in this day & age.

Exceptional Care

We have been at this daycare for almost 2 years. I feel the care given to my children is exceptional. Tiger Land has a wide variety of programs offered to the children, both in their curriculum and as additional activities.

General Info
Tiger Land Child Care Center has been an integral part of the Katy community since 1984 and we now have many 2nd generation family members in attendance. Tiger Land has a special place in Katy as we have been a home-away-from-home for many of the current community leaders and Katy school age and college children. Former students drop by regularly to reminisce and see our School directors and teachers. Our Directors, Ms. Jane and Ms. Cheryl, both have been here more than 20 years and several other teachers have been at Tiger Land for more than 10+ years. Tiger Land also has a special partnership with the Katy Independent School District's PPCD program. During each school year, approximately 16 children from Katy ISD's pre-school PPCD programs participate in our pre-school (3 year olds) and pre-kindergarten programs (4 year olds). Through this program, Tiger Land reaps significant benefits by working with the Katy ISD teachers and sharing learning tools, curriculum and other classroom materials to prepare the children for Kindergarten.
