0Shelmar Kennels To The Rescue
We were at our wits end.
We had an aggressive “rescue dog” that nobody could (or wanted to) handle,
nobody except Martin and Shelly. After a few weeks of training at Shelmar,
my wife and I had our own training session. Martin taught us how
to work with our dog and give him the opportunity to be a “solid citizen.”
We now have a happy and well adjusted dog. When we go on vacation or out of
town, we sleep well knowing he is in good hands at Shelmar. I also want to say
that every time we drive through the gate, my wife and I comment to each other
about how clean and fresh the place is. These folks truly care about dogs.
I am a true fan.

I recently had my 6 month old puppy complete the 3 week training program and I'm not impressed at all with Shelmar Kennels. I was in need of help and was excited to be a responsible dog owner when I signed him up for training. $900 later and an extra $200 vet visit 2 days after he returned home due to an upper respiratory infection and I'm quite certain that this was one of the most expensive mistakes I've ever made. He didn't learn a thing there. Not even one command. I would like to inform anyone who is interested in training their dog to look elsewhere. I'm saving up my money again and taking my dog to someone who believes in one-on-one training.
We have never allowed anyone to leave Shelmar Kennels without one on one instruction when collecting a dog that has received training. Our instruction consists of a minimum hour and a half, most often 2 hours of instruction during which the owner learns how to handle their dog, how to correct their dog if necessary, and how to continue to improve their relationship with their dog for lasting success. We also offer 2 follow up lessons with every training program. We communicate to each and every owner that we are here for any and all support before, during and after training. We have never been contacted by the person who wrote the review dated 9/24/2012 for any reason, whether to indicate that their dog was not properly trained or that the dog later became ill. I don’t believe the reviewer was ever a client of Shelmar Kennels. If they had been a client they would know our policies and no instruction or follow up is not one of our policies. It’s a shame our competition has to slander us by writing negative, untruthful and hurtful reviews instead of providing a better service to their clients. Look at our other reviews, we offer a first class service and have been in business in Houston for 16 years providing in home dog obedience training.
