Pastor L. Henderson Bell began his preaching ministry in September of 1972 under the ministerial tutelage of Dr. E.G. Shields, pastor of the Mount Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis, Missouri.He has served as the pastor of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church for thirty-three years.Pastor Bell, a native of Clarksdale, Mississippi, completed his elementary education in the Coahoma County School District. He continued his education through the elementary years and high school in the public school system of St. Louis, Missouri. In 1973-74 he also attended Missouri Baptist College. Upon leaving St. Louis, Pastor Bell continued his education at Coahoma Jr. College in Clarksdale, Mississippi, with a major in Sociology. At this time he also accepted his first pastorate with the Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church.After leaving Clarksdale, Pastor Bell became pastor of Sand Creek Chapel Baptist Church, where he then en-rolled in Mississippi State University, to complete his studies in the area of Sociology. Pastor Bell is former President for the Missouri Progressive Baptist State Convention, Inc. Pastor Bell has served extensively in the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc., in the following positions:President of the Missouri Progressive State Convention Congress of Christian Education;President of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc. Mid-west Region;Moderator of the Fellowship Missionary Baptist District Association;Pastor Bell has been married to the former Ethel M. Like for over fifty years, and they are theproud parents of three children, two sons and a daughter and have several grandchildren andgreat grandchildren.
