Sumner Academy of Arts and Science was founded in 1978 and is located in Kansas City, Kan. It is a public college-preparatory magnet school. The institution operates through several departments, such as art, drafting, theater, foreign language, band, debate, forensics, choir, newspaper and yearbook. The school provides a wide range of sports activities, including football, wrestling, basketball, soccer, track, baseball, softball, swimming, tennis, golf and bowling. It also has various membership clubs and organizations, such as art, chess, jazz, key, math, Spanish, French, Latin and builder s club, and gay-straight alliance, thespian society, student congress and the National Honor Society. The academy is an affiliate of the Kansas Public Schools.
