The Kansas State School for the Blind provides educational programs to students who are visually impaired. The school is accredited by the Kansas State Board of Education, and is located in Kansas City, Kan. The institution offers career education that includes knowledge of various work fields, marketable skills, and exploration of individual strengths and interests. It provides access to the Internet, electronic note takers, reading machines, Braille translation software, and screen readers and magnifiers. The institution offers a broad range of instructional programs for students, ages 3 through 21 years. The school provides several facilities, such as large print, optical devices, recorded text and voice output. It provides independent travel in indoor and outdoor environments, including the use of public transportation. The school s staff includes orientation and mobility specialists, rehabilitation teachers, social workers, nurses, dietary specialists, psychologists, low-vision optometrists, Braille transcribers; and speech, music, activity, occupational and physical therapists.
