I am shocked at the negative reviews I see written about these folks. I adopted a wonderful Boxer from them 3 years ago and could not have been more pleased. Yes, they asked a lot of questions and there was a waiting period while they checked with my vet and a home visit but that was only so they were sure that my 'Baxter' would be in a safe and loving home. These people love and care about their animals and only want the best for them. They do not want their animals going to a home where they are tied outside and left to fend for themselves.
I encourage anyone who truly wants a healthy and loving animal to check out the Humane Society of Greater KC.

After reading some of the lower star reviews that some people have given to HSGKC I want to point out that they only behave in this manor when a person trying to adopt does not meet the requirements for a good home for the pet. An individual’s behavior or past history can raise a red flag in their opinion and they do not believe the pet should be placed.
As hard as that is for you to understand it is their mission to place the animals only in homes that they believe will be best for the animal and they feel it is a good match.

HSGKC are doing a difficult job on a tight budget with sound morals, we should all be thankful.

I have read the other two reviews and could not disagree more! I thought the people at the Humane Society with wonderful. Yes, they are very protective of the animals but I think that just speaks volumes as to how much they want to find "Forever Homes" for the animals that they have taken responsibility for.

It was a happy place to visit because you knew that none of the animals there were going to lose their lives because of overcrowding. They get to know these animals and give them love and attention. I have a friend who also adopted a dog from them and is extremely pleased. My sister has taken her kitten to them for shots and neutering at a reduced rate and was thrilled that they were there to help her with this responsibility.

Give them a try and I feel sure you'll agree with me.

They are impossible to deal with. We made app for a dog.....went and saw the dog....and now they are dragging their feet to deliver the dog. Either they want a home for it or they don't. This is absolutely ridiculous and when I find out who is really in charge, I will definitely make contact with him,.

I found the workers at the Humane Society to be surprisingly judgmental and arbitrary. I have been a pet lover for my entire life, having owned both cats and dogs who lived well into their elderly years. When I attempted to adopt a cat several years ago, the person in charge turned me down because she did not think my home to be suitable. I am a teacher, a parent, a nurturer, and a person of fortunate financial circumstances. I was shocked at the rude manner in which I was treated, and the cat I fell in love with was left to exist in a small damp cage, while my daughter and I went home empty-handed and embarrassed. I would, under no circumstances, attempt to adopt a pet from the Humane Society of Greater KC.

these people are rude .and there animals cost too much and you are given the third degree when adopting animals from here. i believe these people love animals but there people skills are terrible. My mother owed a bill to them and they expected me to pay for her bill. You can adopt animals from animal controll for alot cheaper and they come with shots and neutered for about half the cost and ten times less attitude .....and oh yea you will not have to answer twenty questions about your home and how old your kids are either and the company that comes over your house
