This place is a joke. I’m a busy mom, didn’t get my bill... called them to find out why I didn’t get one and not only go hung up on, but was told right before they hung up on me that it was due by tomorrow or my water would be turned off! Horrible customer service.

Imagine if the Mafia opened a water company. These folks run a racket! Start off with a $100 fee for a new account. (This is on top of the $30 fee from the City of Charleston, whom St. Johns buys their water from). If you are thinking about moving to John's Island, and read this, go somewhere else! No reason to move to the Island and pay these people a single hard earned dime!

After 4 years of service, here is my experience with the "Customer Service" and business practices of this company:

Less than $20 past due one day, and they cut you off. Go to office thinking "My Bad", office is full of mainly 50-60 year old women that have had the same problem. $50 "reconnection" fee. Actually heard "Customer Service" representative tell a grandmother "It would still be on if you had paid your bill". I walked in and paid at 4:05 pm, if I had been in at 3:59, water would have been back on today instead of tomorrow morning.

Bottom line, they admitted to being extremely busy because OVER 350 customers had their water cut off. 350 x$50 =$17,500 IN REVENUE. MOTHERS WITH KIDS AT HOME WERE TOLD TO LIVE WITHOUT WATER FOR THE NIGHT, AND IF THEY TURN IT BACK ON THEMSELVES IN THE MEAN TIME, THEY WILL BE FINED FOR TAMPERING.

If you have a choice in water service,, do not choose these criminals

Dear St. John’s Water Company Inc.,
A few things… Can you please ensure that I receive the first bill at my address: 1749 Towne Street, before receiving the past due bill? If my past due amount was due by 2/15/14 (a SATURDAY), how am I to pay it if you are not open? You were also not open the following Monday for a holiday. I work from 7:30- 4:30/5:00pm everyday as a middle school teacher. Due to holidays and weather, I was working very hard every minute of my day of return on Tuesday the 18th and came home to find my water shut off. I have two small children and no water. You offer no way for families to get the water shut back on in emergencies such as this. The bill also has an amount due on 2/26/14 of $62.16, which leads your customers to believe that they still have time to pay before being shut off because it does not include the reconnection and non-payment fees. You also do not offer an email address or website or any electronic means of payment for customers who are working during and beyond your business hours. If nothing else, it is just WRONG to not offer people who are financially able to pay, the right to turn their water back on after business hours. I will be sending this letter to the email address I was given by your very rude after hours (male) emergency employee after some debate. I will also be sending a copy to the corporate offices and owners. I would also like to find out how to enroll in automatic payments, because there is no option of this on the bill, but I have heard that you can do this…you all must very proud to work for such a well-run business.
0 stars!!!

We really need to file a formal complain with the better business bureau. The service is unbelievably bad. When we moved we had 4 utility companies to change. St. Johns Water Co. was the only one that made us come there in person. The woman on the phone tells me I have to come there because she cannot do it over the phone. As soon as I walk in the door the lady at the first window doing nothing starts to harass me. First of all there are 3 windows open, and only 1 customer being helped, but the lady tells me to sit down and wait. Then she starts yelling at me across room, because I sat down in the chair and she is trying to bark orders at me. She asks me if I have a copy of my lease aggreement (that she didnt mention on the phone) and I do not because I am renting from my uncle. She said she could not turn on our water without a hand written and signed letter from the owner. She also added spitefully that even though they would be open until 5, they would not accept any new orders after 4. The entire experience was so strange. I felt like I was in the twilight zone. I guess this is the standard for St. Johns Water Company.

St. Johns Water Company is a rip off. There are times you don't even get a bill. But, they will shut your water off and when calling them to ask why they will tell you that you have a past due bill. You then have to pay two bills. A bill you never receive and the next month’s bill you never looked at. They try to speak to you any kind of way when you're there and over the phone. When you speak up, they are very spiteful. I hate doing business with this company. I only gave them a star because, I didn't have a choice!

One star is too much for them. I have been consistently unhappy with St. John's Water Company for a long time, but have never really been irritated enough to write a review... especially since they're a monopoly and we don't have a choice about who we use for our utilities. I have been a great customer, always paying my bill via auto-draft every month. My card number was changed due to fraudulent charges while I was out of the country. This obviously caused my bill not to be paid. They helpfully sent me a letter stating this and that my bill must be paid by the 26th in order to avoid late charges. The sent the letter on the 27th. When I went in to ask in person to get those late fees reversed, they told me that the letter was only a courtesy and told me I should check my bills closer. Bottom line is that they were incredibly rude and unhelpful. This is what is wrong with America these days. Poor customer service. St. John's Water doesn't care... they've got you and they know it. Hurray for monopolies!
