General Info

In 1955 Herbert Jackson purchased our present location 384 Communipaw Avenue and established the Jackson Funeral Residence. Mr. Jackson instantly developed a stellar reputation in the community as a compassionate and caring Funeral Director who generations of clients-families depended on for first class service. In 1980 Herbert A. Jackson began to train his wife Audrey E. Jackson in the practice of Mortuary Science. In 1982 Mrs. Jackson graduated from the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service. Together this dynamic couple oversaw every detail of JFR operations until 1985. During these years Jackson Funeral Residence became synonymous with socially conscious caring business and community service. The firm fostered the values of education and community involvement in business. JFR supported students with college scholarships and rewarded local school children who maintained good grades. Jackson Funeral Residence was cited in the New York Times for its annual contribution to the Monumental Baptist Church Scholarship Fund. JFR contributed to many civil organizations and gave a helping hand to those in need and bereaved families in economic distress. Herbert Jackson served as a teacher and mentor to dozens of African Americans who demonstrated an interest in Mortuary Science. Fourteen young men and women received their NJ Funeral Directors license under the tutelage of Herbert & Audrey Jackson, Including: Frank Sherman ( Frank Sherman Funeral Home, Valdosta GA. ), Freddie Hunt ( Judkins Memorial Funeral Home, Plainfield, NJ. ), Curtis Martin, Walter Woodson, Carol Bough, John & Candice Watson ( Watson Mortuary Service, Jersey City, NJ. ), Rae Brown ( Brown Funeral Home, Hackensack, NJ. ), Alphonso Brown ( Brown & Sons Funeral Home, New York N.Y. ), John B. Houston ( Cushnee Funeral Home, East Orange, NJ. ), Kenneth W. Cattenhead ( The Family Funeral Home, Orange, N.J. ) and Rosalyn A. Browne ( Mr. and Mrs. Jackson's daughter ). Mr. Herbert Alexander Jackson departed this Earth on January 31, 2003. Today the duo of Funeral Directors Audrey Jackson and Rosalyn Browne along with a well trained staff continue in the legacy of Herbert Jackson to proudly deliver first class caring service to every family that entrusts their loved one to us. Our website provides you with vital information regarding funeral arrangements and we hope that it helps to relieve some of your burdens during your time of bereavement.
