Established in 1873, the Jackson County Police Department is a public agency that provides services for the enforcement of laws and protection of life and property, while guarding individual rights, human dignity and community values. It has investigation services, crime prevention, marine and traffic units. The department also maintains a K-9 unit, which provides person tracking, body building, search and rescue, narcotic and crowd control services. In addition, the Jackson County Police Department operates a jail that supports several community work service programs. The department s records section is responsible for the keeping and processing of department reports, requests, firearm permits, registrations, identification and records management.
