St. Joseph Health System is an integrated healthcare delivery system providing a broad range of medical services. The system consists of 14 acute care hospitals, multiple home health agencies, hospice care, outpatient services, skilled nursing facilities, community clinics and physician organizations. The facilities that comprise the health system offer a wide variety of services. St. Joseph contributes to its community in several ways, including the St. Joseph Health System Foundation, Care for the Poor, the system s Budget Philosophy, Socially Responsible Investing, Community Investment Loans and its Healthy Communities Initiatives. The system traces its origins to 1912 when a small contingent of the Sisters of St. Joseph came to Eureka, Calif. to establish a school. Shortly after, the sisters opened the 28-bed St. Joseph Hospital of Eureka, beginning their ministry of health care.
