I have a GE water softener in which since 11/14/14 the salt level never decreased. After consulting with GE customer service GE contacted Alaska Water Products. I recalled GE asking if the type of salt mattered. I informed them that I had used Morton salt crystals. It was advised to take that type of salt out and replace it with pellets. I did so. On 4/24/15 around 11:45 a.m. John from Alaska Water Products showed up. He looked at the unit. Ran a regeneration. Had me turn a faucet on. Everything checked out. I asked him about the type of salt to use. His response was "salt is salt", meaning it doesn't matter what kind of salt. I gave 4 stars to Alaska Water Products because I have an element of doubt. GE says to use pellets, the water softener manual has something else, and John advised to use any kind of salt. I appreciate John checking the unit and Pam, the phone rep, assisting me. Thank you, Don
