HACAP, also known as Hawkeye Area Community Action Program, is one of several Iowa community action agencies that offers a variety of anti-poverty programs, and collaborates with community partners to serve individuals and families. The agency provides flexible and adaptive programs and services in the counties of Benton, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Washington. HACAP operates through advocacy, early childhood development, family resources, health and nutrition, and housing divisions. Its Heat Energy Assistance Program, a federally-funded project, provides energy crisis and bill payment assistance to elderly, disabled and low-income households. The agency s services also include permanent and transitional housing, child care and senior services. HACAP is headquartered in Hiawatha, Iowa.
