Mt. Carmel Elementary School is a Beginning Reading Model and Alabama Reading Initiative school that provides various instructional programs for the personal, social and academic growth of students. The school enrolls students in kindergarten through grade five. It offers the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills reading program that regularly monitors the development of early reading skills. The school s academic curriculum includes various subjects, including art, music, physical education, math, reading, science and social studies. It offers a special education program for students with hearing impairment and developmental disabilities. The school s extended day enrichment program assists children in physical, educational and psychological growth. It offers an online list of accelerated reader quizzes and operates a birthday club that allows parents to present a new library book to children on their birthdays. Mt.
