- Dental ExaminationWe believe strongly in providing every patient with a thorough understanding of their current dental health and any recommended treatment. A comprehensive examination is completed during the first visit, which includes a medical and dental history review plus examination for periodontal disease (gum disease), tooth decay, TMJ (joint problems) and screening for oral cancer.
- X-raysFinally, it is important to let us inspect the implant regularly. Therefore, even with implants you must continue your regiment of twice-yearly cleanings to remove any calcified plaque (tartar), which may be adhering to the implant and allow us to inspect the implant with dental x-rays to find and correct any bone loss that may be occurring.
- Teeth CleaningRegular teeth cleanings. The hygienist or the doctor will recommend certain intervals to have your teeth professionally cleaning. These are custom tailored to your needs. Some individuals need to come every two months, others every three months and so forth.
- FillingsOften there are different solutions to a particular problem. For example, for an area of tooth decay one might consider a silver amalgam filling, a white composite filling, a porcelain filling or even a gold filling- all for the same problem.
- VeneersTo a certain extent care of ceramic veneers is much like regular teeth. However the veneer is similar to a piece of glass- with proper care it will last many years and yet is still somewhat fragile.
- CrownsCrowns (also known as caps) cover the tooth on every side and are an additional cosmetic option. There are a variety of types of crowns.
- Bridges
- Dental BondingThe gap was closed in one visit, without the need for local anesthetic. Conservative composite bonding was done.
- Root Canal TreatmentThe post operative care for a tooth that just had root canal therapy is similar to any other tooth that just had a restorative or filling procedure.
- DenturesDo not sleep with your dentures in your mouth. You must let your gums and oral tissues rest.
- Dental ImplantsAn implant is a man made root, made of surgical titanium (like artificial hips or knees), that is implanted into the upper or lower jaw (it is not as painful as it sounds!). It is not unusual that if a particular tooth cannot be saved, say from tooth decay or gum disease, the tooth can be removed and an implant placed immediately – at that very appointment. This is very convenient because in this manner there is only one surgical procedure.
- Oral Surgery
- Jaw Surgery
- Tooth Extractions
- OrthodonticsThe cephalometric x-ray study along with plaster models of the teeth allow us to evaluate your needs to discuss with you during your consultation. During this consultation we will go over what treatments can be accomplished and most importantly discuss with you the risks of orthodontics. In our consultation we want to address your concerns and to answer any questions about treatment, time involved, and costs in an unpressured setting.
- Invisalign OrthodonticsInvisalign is an orthodontic system that uses custom made clear, thin plastic trays -or aligners as they are called- to incrementally straighten your teeth. No wires or brackets are needed.
- BracesOne of the most important things for an individual with braces to do is to keep the braces and teeth as clean as possible. It is not easy and takes some extra time. If oral hygiene is not good the result can be permanent discoloration of the teeth, which is seen when the braces are removed. Cavities too can occur but this is less common. The discoloration occurs when the bacteria in the plaque (the white stuff that accumulates around the braces) suck out minerals from the surface of the tooth leaving a permanent white stain. In addition, not keeping the braces clean can cause a build-up of plaque that will result in swelling of the gums.
- Teeth WhiteningFollow the instructions you were given in the office for the bleaching process. Consistent use of the bleaching trays and products will have the best results.
- Cosmetic DentistryIn my practice of cosmetic dentistry and orthodontics here in Houston, whether we are doing comprehensive orthodontics or six month braces it is somewhat common for patients to develop sore spots on newly placed orthodontic brackets. I would like to discuss some of these problems and how they can be treated. First of all the brackets are small squarish projections which can be felt on the inside of the lips and cheeks. In time the lips and cheeks will develop shallow callouses. Some of the brackets have small wire projections (which allow us to use for springs and rubber bands).… Read More
