Founded in 1911, James D. Burrus Elementary School is a Texas Education Agency-recognized facility. It enrolls students in prekindergarten through grade five. The school s community partners include North Main Church of God & Christ, True Light Baptist Church, Reliant Energy and Tubbs Foundation. The school offers a variety of after-school programs and activities, including band, arts and crafts, chess, dance and basic Spanish classes. Additionally, the school employs several special education teachers. Located in Houston, James D. Burrus Elementary School is a part of the Houston Independent School District, which is one of the largest public school systems in the United States.
