It is rare indeed that the James Beard Foundation bestows accolades on a neighborhood eatery. After being in business for more than a half-century, the James Beard Foundation called Helena's a "regional classic" for Hawaiian dishes like Kalua pig, poi, short ribs, boiled butterfish collar with gravy, fried 'ahi, fried aku and home-smoked pipikaula.
