Joseph C. Varcadipane, M.D., a native of New Jersey, graduated from Princeton University in 1999 with a bachelorâ??s degree in Economics. Having an interest in business, he worked in finance as a securities trader prior to returning to school to pursue medicine. He received a postbaccalaureate certificate in premedical studies from Columbia University and graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (now part of Rutgers University) with his MD in 2008. He completed residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Hawaiâ??i in 2013. â?? After residency, he went on to complete fellowship training with Dr. Joel Matta, a world-renowned hip and pelvis surgeon at the Hip & Pelvis Institute at St. Johnâ??s Health Center in Santa Monica, California. Dr. Matta is largely credited for developing modern day anterior hip replacement as well as being one of the most well-regarded pelvis and acetabular trauma surgeons in the history of orthopedic surgery. During his time with Dr. Matta, he focused on complex hip and pelvis reconstruction and worked with Dr. Mattaâ??s partners in knee replacement and general trauma.
