- Dental ExaminationAt your first appointment Dr. Mulroy will complete a comprehensive oral examination. This includes a review of your medical and dental history, all necessary x-rays, oral cancer screening, periodontal health evaluation and examination of your teeth and soft tissues. Following this exam, Dr. Mulroy will discuss his findings with you, develop a treatment plan that you are comfortable with, and then you will be scheduled according to your needs. You also may have been scheduled for a hygiene appointment immediately following this examination. If not, you will be scheduled when the exam is concluded. We know that you will find our hygienists to be caring, gentle and extremely knowledgeable.

- VeneersPorcelain veneers apply the finishing touches to many great smiles. You have probably seen them in some gleaming smiles of people you know or have met, but didn’t know they were veneers. Your cosmetic dentist in Holden area, Dr. Thomas Mulroy, understands how to artfully implement porcelain veneers. When Dr. Mulroy is creating porcelain veneers, there is a lot of behind-the-scenes communication between him and our local lab, which ensures the best fit, function and beautiful aesthetic appearance. You know you have come to the right cosmetic dentist serving Holden, Paxton Princeton & Sterling, when the right materials, size and shapes are carefully calculated give you the most ideal, natural look possible.
- CrownsThe crowns (portion of tooth outside gums)of natural teeth require good oral care, regular dental checkups, and sound dietary habits to stay healthy. When the crown of the tooth has decayed on a large scale it becomes susceptible to root breakage that will lead to the loss of the tooth. If the root is intact, a gold or porcelain crown or “cap” can be used to strengthen and protect the remaining structure of a widely decayed or broken tooth.
- BridgesAn artistic eye for detail in your dentist can achieve more beautiful results than perhaps others. Unsightly dark margins near the gumline can be due to the underlying metal of a porcelain-fused-metal crown. Dr. Mulroy uses porcelain crowns in this area thus creating a more natural attractive smile line. The dramatic results he has achieved for his patients make this one of his favorite areas of dentistry. He uses only the best materials and local laboratories for fabrication, and is known for his unwillingness to acccept anything less than perfection in the function and beauty of his crowns and bridges.
- Dental BondingWhile used to repair decay in both front and back teeth, composite can also be used for simply cosmetic reasons. Small changes to repair cracks, chips or close spaces between teeth can make a huge difference in your overall smile. This can be a very minimally invasive procedure, comparatively low in cost, and done in just a small window of time using composite bonding just as a sculptor would use clay. After preparing the tooth (or several teeth) Dr. Mulroy will apply custom shaded resin, then sculpt, shape and polish it to create a natural and beautiful smile. Be sure to mention any changes you may wish to see next time you are in our office. You may be surprised how achievable results can be!
- Restorative DentistryRestorative Dentistry encompasses several procedures used in the art of restoring damaged and lost teeth. When a tooth loses some structure due to decay or trauma often it can be repaired by placing filling material. Dr. Mulroy is a cosmetic dentist who generally places white composite fillings which look most natural, are mercury free and are comfortable for the patient. If the damage to the tooth is more extensive a he may choose to protect a tooth by covering it with a crown, which will protect it by distributing the stress to the tooth in a more favorable manner.
- Root Canal TreatmentWhen you lose teeth, the bone that supported them disappears with time. This leads to problems later as dentures may start to rock, your face may appear sunken, and eating may become difficult. One solution is to not extract certain teeth which are decayed, but instead to remove the crown of the tooth and prepare the root of the tooth to remain in place. The tooth then acts as a support under the denture and also decreases the level of bone loss. Treatment with these dentures tends to be more expensive than a partial denture as teeth need to have root canal treatment and small fillings or copings over the root.
- Deep CleaningScaling and Root Planing is a conservative cleaning treatment that is highly effective in treating periodontal disease. Scaling involves a deep cleaning of the tooth above and below the gum line in order to remove accumulated
- DenturesWhen all teeth are missing from an arch, replacing them with a full denture benefits a patient’s appearance and health. Without support from the denture, facial muscles sag, making a person look older. Dentures make it possible to eat and speak—things that people often take for granted until their natural teeth are lost. The upper denture is held in place by suction, the saliva acts as a seal. The muscles of the cheeks also help to a lesser degree. The lower denture is held in place by gravity and mainly by the muscles of the cheeks and the tongue.

- Dental ImplantsDental implants are becoming the tooth replacement option of choice for many people. Because they are permanently inserted into the jaw, implants are truly the next best thing to having one’s own teeth. Greater satisfaction is reported for implants than for bridgework because they look and feel completely natural and are easy to care for. Dr. Mulroy works with the best periodontic specialists to place a small titanium implant into the bone where the implant retained tooth will be placed. A strong and natural looking tooth is then secured onto the implant. Implants are not only used to replace one missing tooth, but can be used in patients where multiple teeth are needed.

- Invisalign OrthodonticsAn Invisalign-trained dentist will utilize 3D computer imaging technology to demonstrate the complete treatment plan from the initial position to the final desired position. This imaging technology is then used to design an individualized series of custom-made aligners. The patient wears the aligner for about two weeks while the teeth move incrementally. After two weeks, the current aligner is replaced with the next one until the final position is achieved.
- BracesCost is always a concern, and only your doctor can determine the price of treatment. It is typically in the same range as ordinary metal braces, ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the requirements of your case.
- Teeth WhiteningProfessional teeth whitening is highly effective in lightening natural tooth color to a desired shade and removes coffee, wine, tobacco and other stains. Dr. Mulroy will create custom whitening trays for you to take home to be used with a professional grade gel that far surpasses the “whitening” treatments available in your local drugstore. Custom trays are completely reusable so you can touch up your smile at any time.
- Cosmetic DentistryBridges are prosthetic appliances that are attached to the teeth adjacent to a gap created by one or more missing teeth. Dr. Mulroy’s talent in cosmetic dentistry and unwavering eye for detail make his bridgework attractive and comfortable. Bridges are not removable, so fit is of the utmost importance to support the best function and appearance. Again, Dr. Mulroy uses only the best materials and local laboratories for fabrication, and is known for his unwillingness to acccept anything less than perfection in the function and beauty of his crowns and bridges.
