Claire s Stores is a leading international specialty retailer that offers value-priced costume jewelry, accessories and cosmetics to fashion-aware teens and young adults through its two store concepts: Claire s (North America and Europe) and Icing by Claire s. Founded in 1961 as a predecessor to Claire s named Fashion Tress, the name changed to FT Industries in 1973 when Claire s Boutiques, a company that operated 60 stores throughout the Chicago area, was purchased. The company took on its present name in 1983. It has shifted its offering from a wig and accessory manufacturing company under to becoming a specialty retailer of women s fashion accessories.
