I was surprised to read the bad review on Biba's Italian Restaurant. My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful meal there two nights ago. They had our favorite Italian Wine. We each had a different veal dish and were pleased with both. I had the Veal Picante which was a little tart with lemon but still good. We were pleased with the large salads and the rolls were out of this world. The meal included a large portion of veal, pasta dish, salad, warm garlic and butter rolls. We didn't have a long wait and the waitress and assistant manager checked with us several times to see if we needed anything. The restaurant was very busy and it felt like a neighborhood cafe which was wonderful. Hixson needs more of this kind of restaurant. They had pizza which we plan to order tonight. You should try the new restaurant and judge for yourself.

Don't bother!

The service was bad, the food was bad....

We started with the $6 mozzarella stick appetizer. They were obviously out of the freezer section of the grocery store. And they were not cooked all the way through.

Next, were the salads. I would say they were equal parts lettuce and Thousand Island Dressing. There was so much dressing as to render it inedible. There was one tomato wedge, one cucumber slice, and one pepperoncini floating around in there, but it took me a while to find them. To top it all off, the dressing was straight out of a bottle. If I had to guess, I'd say Kraft?

On to the main course.... I ordered the Spaghetti ala Carbonera. Absolutely flavorless, save for the bits of bacon. My husband ordered the Ravioli with meat sauce. He received about 6 raviolis covered in what appeared to be a tomato paste/water mixture, and topped with a dollop of hambuger. But not even good hamburger. It very closely resembled Taco Bell meat. There were pools of orange grease on the plate. He said it tasted much like elementary school spaghetti.

The only thing worth eating was the rolls.

We left with bloated bellies, but not because we were full. We were bloated with gas and nausea. I began to wonder if we had food poisoning. The next morning, I could still feel the effects of the horrible food I'd eaten.

To make matters worse, our server was highly inexperienced. She started by informing us that she would be "taking our order." Who says that?! She later asked if we had received our salads yet, when there were obviously no salads on the table. We were going to leave her a $2 tip (yes, the service was THAT bad), but, unfortunately, she returned our $6 in change as a $5 and a $1, so she received $1. We felt bad for under tipping THAT much, but she has a lot to learn and, frankly, we felt as if we'd wasted enough money there already. I spoke to a co-worker who had eaten there the same night. He said that his service was terrible also, that his server had a tongue ring and acted as though she had had a few Xanax.

All in all, we dropped $34 (including tip) at Biba's. The food was not even as good as Rafael's, but cost as much as Olive Garden. I could have made a far better meal at home for far less. I overheard the bartender saying that this was the owner's third or fourth restaurant; that he had a few in Atlanta. With food and service this bad, how did he ever get passed one? We will never go back.
