According to a recent article in U.S. News & World Report, there are seven types of income Uncle Sam will not tax. One of those forms of income is child support. Provided it is not classified as an alimony payment, child support is not taxable. Another form of income the IRS will not take a bite out of is a life … [Read more...]

- Wrongful DeathIf you are the victim of medical malpractice, you may be entitled to an award of money to compensate you for your pain and suffering. If your baby or a close family member died as the result of medical negligence, no amount of money can restore that life, but it is the form of compensation that the legal system provides to help assure that justice is done. In addition to compensation for pain and suffering, emotional distress, and wrongful death, compensation can be awarded to help you meet your expenses that result from malpractice, including...

- Misdemeanors–FOR MOST MISDEMEANORS, WITH THE NOTABLE EXCEPTION OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE WHERE ONLY A JUDGE CAN SET THE BOND, THE POLICE ARE AUTHORIZED BY LAW TO RELEASE YOU AFTER PAYMENT OF YOUR BOND. That is why it is critical at the time of your arrest that you ask where you are being taken so that you can notify any friend or family member who may be available and that person will then know where to go if you require bond money. Normally, the highest cash bond the police can set anywhere in Cook County is $500.00. For misdemeanors, after your bond has been posted (unless it is an “I” bond which requires no cash), an officer must provide a bond slip which indicates the date, time, and place of your first court date, and the offense(s) with which you have been charged. Once you have left and had an opportunity to relax, the sooner you contact an attorney you feel you can trust, the better. Consultations as a rule are free. Time is of the essence because the more of it you allow to pass, the less likely it is that you are going to remember events in the kind of detail which is often necessary. Moreover, any witnesses you have who are casual acquaintances are normally far more likely to come with you to see your lawyer within days of the event they witnessed than they are going to be weeks later. This could provide the attorney with invaluable information.

- Property Damage–SOME PEOPLE HAVE THE IMPRESSION HAVE THE IMPRESSION THAT THE ONLY TIME THEY REALLY NEED AN ATTORNEY IN A TRAFFIC CASE IS IF THEY ARE CHARGED WITH DUI. This is an erroneous and dangerous assumption. Driving while your license is either revoked or suspended, Aggravated Speeding (31 miles per hour or more over the speed limit), Reckless Driving (even when there is no accident), or Leaving the Scene of An Accident with only property damage are all Class A misdemeanors. (Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Personal Injury is a felony.) This places these offenses in the same category as Battery, Aggravated Assault, Retail Theft, Criminal Damage to Property, Domestic Battery, and other crimes for which no reasonable person would go to court without a lawyer. So treat these traffic offenses seriously as you will find yourself in a criminal courtroom if you are charged with one of them.

Working in conjunction with an experienced estate planning attorney, you can outline your wishes for the transfer of your assets and the care of your dependent children. This important process is not reserved only for the wealthy, as many people mistakenly believe. As a matter of fact, in Illinois the court will put into effect a default will (a/k/a the “statute of descent and distribution”) unless you specify your wishes in a will of your own.

- ForeclosureAfter I lost a good job I had had for years, I lost my house in foreclosure. I went to Mr. Lynch and he did a bankruptcy for me so I could put the whole thing behind me. This year I recieved a very threatening letter from the IRS over a large tax bill (I took all my pension money from an old job and didn’t pay in in 2010) I went back to Mr. Lynch and he put the brakes on the IRS and got me on a low pay plan. They did my 2012 tax return as part of the deal. It felt good that I was able to find someone who I believe knows what he’s doing and who got my problems solved fast and wasn’t too expensive.
