Founded in 1906, West Side Union Elementary School offers a range of educational programs to students in kindergarten through grade six. Its curriculum includes math, language arts, science and English. The school conducts classes in physical education, poetry, theater , music and dance. The school also organizes a variety of events, including assemblies, musical performances, plays and festival celebration s. It operates a school site council, as well as offers gardening and extended care programs. The school maintains a library and media center that stocks more than 3,500 books and periodicals.
