San Luis Reservoir state recreation area is operated by the California Department of Parks and Recreation. The park s office is headquartered in Gustine, Calif., which organizes camping, picnics, and offers recreational activities. San Luis Reservoir state recreation area is surrounded by beautiful landscape. It was originally constructed as a storage reservoir for the federal Central Valley Project and the California State Water Project. It offers various recreational and sports activities, such as boating, board sailing, fishing and hiking. The park features family and group campsites, and offers horse riding, swimming and restrooms. Its Basalt campground features tables and fire rings, tent areas, and restrooms with private baths. The park area is surrounded by beach and offers beach equipment rental services. It also organizes entertainment programs for visitors.
