Established in 1948, the Gurnee Fire Department operates under the government of the Village of Gurnee, Ill., and provides fire protection and emergency medical response services to residents. The department operates a community emergency response team that educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards and trains them in basic disaster response skills. It maintains an emergency management agency that coordinates relief, response and recovery activities for emergency and disaster situations. The Gurnee Fire Department operates a fire prevention bureau that is a local enforcement agency to administer uniform fire codes of Illinois within the township. The department operates training and information, emergency, support services, and fire administration and prevention divisions.
