- Medical Weight LossRestrictive procedures, where weight loss may be accomplished by limitation of caloric intake – Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding surgery (e.g. LAP-BAND® System) and Gastric Sleeve surgery
- Nutritional CounselingMany variables must be monitored to assure your healthy success with weight loss. The Surgical Specialists of Louisiana and Surgical Specialists offer nutritional counseling, gastric band adjustments (at no charge for one year), monthly support groups, and the experience to detect and treat possible complications.
- Primary CareSelect a primary care physician if you don’t already have one, and establish a relationship with him or her. Work with your physician to ensure that your routine health maintenance testing is current.
- Colon CancerColon Cancer: Obese people are at greater risk of colon cancer as abdominal fat appears to increase risk more than fat elsewhere (which is why men have a higher risk).
- Laparoscopic SurgeryBariatric surgery has been recognized as the most effective tool for morbidly obese patients to lose weight and overcome the diseases often associated with it. However, many patients worry about the recovery time and complications associated with surgical incisions. Other patients who regained weight after gastric bypass have had limited treatment options in the past. New incisionless weight loss procedures, performed through the patient’s mouth, provide these less invasive and restorative bariatric procedure options. Incisionless weight loss procedures may offer important advantages over open and laparoscopic surgery including reduced risk of infection, less post-operative pain, faster recovery time and no visible scars.
- Bariatric SurgeryWe encourage post-operative patients to attend bariatric support groups regularly. Our support group is open to patients from other programs: our focus is on the well-being of all bariatric surgery patients. We also encourage pre-operative patients to attend as part of their preparation for surgery. It is strongly recommended that children not accompany patients due to the potential for adult oriented topics and discussions.
