The bus was to leave Hagerstown at the Park and Ride at 6:00 am. We finally pulled out at 7:00 am due to the bus being so late and everything being so unorganized. The driver didn't know how to lift the front end back up so he had to slam on the breaks at every overpass to keep the front end from dragging and hitting. We were all waiting on a tractor trailer or a car to rear-end us at any moment! At the Greencastle pick-up, another driver got on and showed him how to raise the front end and how to turn on the defrost. By 8:15, we were finally on our way again! I had considered getting off and calling a ride to come get us at this point after I over-heard the tour guide asked another tour guide if she felt safe riding with this driver. We only made it to the rest area outside of Hershey since everyone started demanding the bus pull off! Everyone wanted off the bus since the driver was dozing off. He had run two cars off the road and very nearly missed a collision with one of the vehicles when they returned to the road! People on the bus started calling 911 and the State Police met us at the rest area. The company's owner told the tour guides "that it couldn't be as bad" as everyone was saying! He finally agreed to send another bus to pick us up. We found out from the State Police that the driver was 87 years old, on a "bus driver's" learner permit AND, it was illegal for him to have that many passengers on a bus since he wasn't fully licensed!! This driver had never been to NYC, had no GPS, didn't know how to get there or ever drove in that type of traffic! He was a last-minute substitute for another substitute since the real driver couldn't make it that day! We waited for 5 hours outside in the cold until the second bus arrived at 1:15 in the afternoon! By then, it was too late to go on to NYC and everyone was taken back to Hagerstown and told no refunds were being given!
