General Info
"How did you ever come up with the idea of a bakery?" We get asked this everyday. It was a conversation over dinner one night. That's how it started. The vision for a bakery conceived by four friends soon turned into a convivial neighborhood gathering place. The timing was right and a charming little building on Wealthy Street in the heart of the inner city soon became the center of our attention. What had been a grocery store in the 1930's was now in ruins and needed quite a bit of elbow grease. Now, being residents of Heritage Hill and die hard preservationists, we renovated the store from top to bottom with classic hardwood floors, and real plaster saving architectural elements like our authentic tin ceiling and classic front door. We painted the walls warm and welcoming colors reminiscent of the era and filled the new space with our time, hopes and dreams. One of those dreams was to find an artisan bread oven a real one and we found the perfect match! One of only two of its kind in the world, it now sits prominently in the center of the store. Each day out of its hand made bronze door come hearth breads and pizzas artfully crafted and baked to perfection. We planned for this oven and our unique recipes to be the heart of our new business. We opened on October 5, 2002, and ever since our friendly staff has greeted neighbors and folks on their daily commute as they stop by for a quick latte, a cup of our fresh roasted coffee or a quick bite with friends. Each day also brings someone who has just "discovered" us. It's so fun for us, and they're thrilled to find a bakery that crafts pastries and breads from scratch using only wholesome ingredients like real milk, creamery butter and artisan flours. The four of us would like to thank our loyal friends, customers, and employees for your support and patronage over the years. It turns out that an oven isn't the heart of a bakery it's you!
