Established in 1873, Shoemaker Elementary School is an educational institution that provides a range of academic and extracurricular programs for more than 235 students in kindergarten through grade five. It offers classes in art, math, social studies, music and physical education. Shoemaker Elementary School also provides instruction in English, computer technology, reading and writing. It maintains a parent-teacher organization that organizes regular conferences and meetings, as well as sponsors school s recreational and social activities. The school additionally offers the Gang Resistance Education & Training (G.R.E.A.T.), which is a specially designed program for the prevention of gang involvement in school students. Located in Grand Island, Neb., Shoemaker Elementary School is governed by Grand Island Public Schools, which manages various elementary, middle and high schools.
